11 Nigerian startups and 59 others across Africa have been shortlisted for the finals of the AppsAfrica Innovation Awards 2018 that would take place in Cape Town, South Africa, on November 12.

The 11 Nigerian startups are: Farmcrowdy (Agritech, Best African App and Social Impact Awards for its Farmcrowdy app), Kitovu (Agritech Award), Flutterwave (Changing Africa and Fintech Awards), Kobo360 (Enterprise Solution), Paylater (Fintech Award), MobiCure (Healthtech and Social Impact Awards), WellaHealth (Healthtech), CypressV (IoT Award), Publiseer (Media and Entertainment Award), All Farmers Online (Social Impact), ScholarX (Social Impact).
The AppsAfrica Innovation Awards 2018 received over 300 submissions from start-ups, established ventures, and corporate bodies from 39 African countries. Majority of entries were from Nigeria, South Africa and Kenya.
The awards is an annual ceremony to honour African innovators in mobile and technology. It exposes winners to maximum industry recognition as it brings together hundreds of industry players and promises plenty of networking.
This year, the award welcomes entries into 14 categories, namely: Disruptive Innovation Award, Health Tech Award; Best African App Award; Enterprise Solution Award; Blockchain Award; Changing Africa Award; Mobility Award; News & Entertainment Award; Educational Award; FinTech Award; AgriTech Award; Social Impact Award; IoT Award; and mCommerce Award.

The winners of the AppsAfrica Innovation Awards 2018 will be positioned as leaders within the innovation and technology ecosystem in Africa. They will have access to sponsorship and partnership from Africa and beyond. They would also have punched their ticket to the Africa Tech Summit, Kigali 2019, where they would meet over 400 tech leaders from across the continent.
In previous years, the AppsAfrica Innovation Awards have drawn serious interest. In 2017, it received over 300 submissions from across 31 countries but narrowed this number to 44 finalists spread across 10 categories.
