Nigerian startups continue to score big points for themselves around the globe as ScholarX, a Nigerian EdTech startup has been selected, alongside four other innovative startups, by the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE), for its 2018 accelerator programme.

ScholarX, an EdTech startup focuses on Education Financing to help young Africans access quality education through scholarships, crowdfunding (Village), and e-learning. Students only have to provide some details and they get information about the list of Scholarships that match their qualificationS. This is indeed a remarkable milestone for the startup as it is the first Nigerian startup to take part in the programme since it began in 2009.

The Nigerian EdTech startup would be joined by the other selected startups, includING Chatterbox (UK) – online language-tutoring platform created for refugees from the UK, US and France; Uptale (France) – a VR learning platform for teachers and trainers; ImBlaze (US) – an online management platform for educators and students; and SmartScience (US) – an online platform that facilitates learning in the sciences.

All five selected startups will kick-off the WISE Accelerator program during the WISE@NY forum holding in New York on September 22, 2018.  At the forum, the startups will take part in a series of workshops, masterclasses, mentorship and pitching sessions. The year-long program is designed to assess and support the startups and also give them the opportunity to meet up with potential partners, donors, and investors to help them scale up their businesses.

Speaking on their selection, Bola Lawal, co-founder of ScholarX said to Disrupt Africa:

We are really excited to be amongst the five projects selected from a very competitive group across the globe to join the 2018-2019 WISE Accelerator. We really believe this will give us the added credibility we need, and it also opens up a big network of donors and partners that will help us deliver more funding opportunities for African youth to get a good education.

The year is proving to be a good one for the startup as this is not the only feat it can boast of this year. It was also recently selected among the eight EdTech startups selected for Injini, Cohort 2.
