Hi guys, trust you had a great weekend. This week, there are several interesting events across the tech space that you can attend. However, most of the events will hold virtually due to precautions against the COVID-19 pandemic that is still spreading globally.

We have curated a list of some of the major virtual events you could attend. These events come up between July 13 – 18, 2020.

Mobile Money Taxation Webinar

Africa has the highest adoption and use of mobile money in the world. The region is forecasted to add over 500 million new users this year alone. However, the increasing growth of the industry has caught the attention of governments looking to generate funds from its success.

The International Centre for Tax and Development has organised a webinar to discuss the causes and unintended consequences of taxing mobile money transactions.

The webinar will look at the lessons that can be learnt from the four recent case studies (Uganda, Cote d’Ivoire, Malawi, and Congo-Brazzaville) in the new GSMA paper by Killian Clifford.

The event will be moderated by Rhiannon McCluskey, Communications and Impact Manager ICTD and Moyosore Arewa, Program and Research Officer ICTD. The paper will be presented by Killian Clifford, Director of Policy and Advocacy for Mobile Money, GSMA.

Crypto in Africa Webinar

This week during Binance “Off the Charts!” Virtual Conference, a panel of cryptocurrency experts in Africa will speak on Crypto in Africa: Mobilizing the Unbanked.

The experts will share the latest insights on the blockchain ecosystem in Africa. They will focus on issues powering crypto growth, crypto in traditional finance, blockchain and global health, policy and regulation, trading strategies and technical analysis.

The panel session will be moderated by Sonya Kuhnel, co-founder, Bitcoin events. The panel includes Nigeria’s Munachi Ogueke, CBO Yellow Card Financials, Yele Bademosi, Founder and CEO Bundle, among others.

The winners of Binance Awards 2020, an event which celebrates the standout innovators and businesses that have made sizable contributions to the blockchain ecosystem will also be announced at the event
