Nigerian e-payment platform, Paga is a decade old. The company is one of the most prominent in the fintech space and has helped change the face of mobile payments in Nigeria.

And to celebrate this impressive stride for the Fintech company, we have decided to rundown 10 interesting facts about the startup.

  • Paga is an e-payment platform that allows its users transfer money and make payments through their mobile devices. Users can also pay bills, buy airtime or make transfers through the platform.
  • The startup was founded by Tayo Oviosu and co-founded by Jay Alabraba.
  • According to CEO, Tayo, he started Paga out of the frustration of carrying his cash around. He boot strapped the company for the first 6 months before raising finance from angel investors and later from institutional investors.
  • In addition to its online platforms, the startup has a chain of 20,000 agents in every region across Nigeria and an employee team of 460.
  • In 10 years of existence, Paga has processed over 72 million transactions worth over N1.6 trillion ($4.6 billion).
  • Till date the startup has raised over 12 billion naira ($34.7 million) in funding from a host of investors. Some of these include Omidyar Network, Adlevo Capital and the Global Innovation Fund.
