Nigerian Fintech company, Paga is taking some time off to do some good in the world. The payments company has just helped establish a new school for children in the Makoko community of Lagos.
Very proud of the work team @mypaga has done to re-build a school for kids in Makoko – a floating village just behind our headquarters. This was done in partnership with the Khan Foundation! Well done team! #makinglifepossible https://t.co/h9ChRGukWg

Located in the “Silicon Valley” of Nigeria, Makoko is an extremely rural neighbourhood with very poor living conditions. Despite its proximity to the developed and affluent parts Of Lagos, Makoko is a retarded environment, a typical ghetto. Located just close to the Atlantic, the community lacks many social amenities.
One of the most important amenities missing is educational facilities. Due to the low income of its residents, the neighbourhood lacks quality schools for its young children.
Recognizing this issue, Paga stout to offset this problem somewhat. “We initially set out to simply donate some money to help in setting up the school.” However, the company shared that as more of its staff began to engage and volunteer for the project, it decided to go all in.
“We’re excited to have made this vision come to life with the help of our passionate team.”
But of course, Paga is not the only one piloting the school project. The Fintech company partnered with the KHAN Foundation in Nigeria to launch the school. According to the Foundation, the partnership was to” help us reach our goal of providing basic education to children from underprivileged communities.”
Called the KHAN Foundation Junior Academy Hub 3, the new school is located at Okoagbon Community, Makoko. It will accommodate around 50 students, training them in unique programs designed to move them from poverty.
Although Paga didn’t clarify if this was an outright CSR programme, it did share that it has more projects for kids scheduled for this year. “We intend to continuously support Khan in achieving its goals of promoting community development and providing education to marginalized children.”
