Recruitment Startup, DropQue Emerges Winner of Seedstars Lagos Pitch Event

Nigerian Recruitment startup, Dropque, led the pack of 10 chosen startups to emerge winner of the Nigerian leg of global early-stage startups competition Seedstars Lagos on Friday.

The 10 startups selected to pitch their ideas startups are below 2 years old, have received less than $500k in funding and have showed traction and were scalable. They presented their ideas in front of a panel of experienced tech investors and entrepreneurs.

Dropque emerged eventual winners. The startup is Africa’s first interactive and intelligent talent which uses crisp candidate profiles, unassisted video interviews, and emotional/facial analysis to help companies find talents faster than ever.

Founded in 2016 by CEO Opeyemi Akinwoleola and Yinka Akinbobola, the startup is designed in such a way that employers can interview candidates anywhere. They could also cut recruitment time by 50% by helping employers create video interviews and invite candidates to respond to them with timed responses.

With this win, Dropque, gets admitted into Seedspace tech hub in Lagos and will be representing Nigeria at the Seedstars Africa Regional competition slated for December 13. In addition, Dropque will be heading to the global finals in global summit in Lausanne, Switzerland in April next year, with a chance to win up to US$1 million in equity investment.

Asides Dropque, MyMedicines – a fully aggregated online medicines’ ordering platform in Nigeria emerged first-runner up. Natterbase, a freelancing platform that allows companies recruit engineers and other developers securely and with ease, emerged second runner-up.

The other startups that pitched at the event include:  Aspire Power Solutions – a data analytics solution; BeatDrone –  a drone startup for farmers; Biya – a chat based payment solution; Bridgebooks – an accounting analytics solution provider; Chekkit Technologies – a block chain powered anti-counterfeit startup; NextCounsel – a practice management system; and Termii – a software as a service (SaaS) platform.
