This week, the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the executive Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu in a webinar focused on investment and business opportunities in the state.

Digital Rights: Tech Reading Party

On Monday, Paradigm Initiative will be hosting a virtual tech reading party to analyze Kenya’s Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes (Amendment) Bill, 2021.

Some of the amendments that will be discussed include the proposed law that ‘recommend websites to be rendered inaccessible within the Republic of Kenya.’

It also states that a person who knowingly posts porn content using computer systems, produces the same for distribution, or downloads/distributes/transmits the same using computer tools would be penalized and required to pay a fine of up to KES 20 million or be jailed up to a maximum of 25 years.

It also proposes that it would be illegal to have pornography in a computer system or any other storage media.

At the webinar, experts will dig deeper and attempt to analyze the bill from the background of privacy, human rights and other constitutional guarantees and to make prescriptions for law reform.
