Sety mobile application was launched in 2020 by Adetiwa Olumide as a personal response to the security challenges faced by many Nigerians in the country. With many security challenges facing citizens daily, innovations that can help people to stay away from trouble or get help them get away from one will always come in handy.

Sety can be your own personal lookout

There’s probably nobody in the world who wouldn’t want to be forewarned of the possibility of danger in the immediate future and in the immediate environment. This will certainly help people adequately prepare for them.

Some of the violent demonstrations at the recent #endSARS protests have increased people’s need to be security-conscious. Sety app could come in handy in these situations by providing a way to know of violent situations ahead of time. With over 5,000 downloads on the Playstore, it appears a handful of people already entrust their safety to this app.

I reviewed version 1.0 of the app and here, I will show you how to use the app as well as the features that are most helpful.

What Sety does

Sety acts as a third eye for you when you need to know if it is safe to move. If you find yourself in a situation where your safety is compromised, you may need to reach out, not just to the people in your circle, but also law enforcement and public health agencies. Sety could help with that. It functions as an intermediary between you, your emergency contacts as well as the agencies that can help when you need them to.

How to use the app

After installing the app, You’ll be required to set up your account with your name and surname, phone number, mail and password. Once that is done, you are ready to use the app on your phone. Sety needs to able to access the location of the device for the purpose of tracking.

If you want to check if your area is calm or if there is a disturbance, what you have to do is to open the app and allow it roam. If there is any unrest around you or someone in your circle is in danger, Sety notifies you and you can act accordingly. There is the option of adding people to your circle from your contact list. In the case where the person you are adding is not using Sety, the app sends an invite to them to join you on the app.

From the side banner, you can go to your circle, check out incidents around you, and see danger zones. If there’s unrest is any area around you, it will be shown as a danger zone for you and if any incidents have been reported, it will appear in the incidents section.

What users say about Sety

A good number of people find the app useful as feedback on the Playstore shows. One user, Thelma told TechNext that the app is a major help to her and came in handy during the aftermath of the “#endSARS protests when things got violent in Yaba area. “I was able to know what was going on and to stay put until things quieted down,” she said.

However, there are also some negative reviews which are mostly from people that want some additions to the app functionalities. Some others complained of not being able to register on the app on time.

In my experience with the app, I noticed that even though it took a while for the registration to be confirmed, the registration process itself was finished in about 3 minutes. That is to say that you may experience some delay when registering but it usually is completed in a matter of minutes.

In summary, Sety’s features allow you to stay away from danger and to get help if you are in danger. It is a valuable app to have on your phone.
