#BBNaija: OPPO, Flutterwave and Other Tech Companies that Played a Part in BBNaija Lockdown

After 71 days of all-round drama and excitement featuring 20 housemates, the Big Brother Naija (BBN) Lockdown season, 5 is finally over. BBNaija Housemate, Olamilekan Agbeleshe popularly called “Laycon” emerged winner of the lockdown season 5 show.

Laycon defeated other finalists; Dorathy, Nengi, Neo and Vee on the final day to the to claim the 85 million prize money for the show.

Laycon emerged winner after getting the highest number of votes (60%) decided by fans of the show. The first runner-up is Dorathy with 2.85%

During the 10 weeks it lasted, the reality show dominated conversations among many Nigerians as fans vied and lobbied for their favourite housemates. But the vying and lobbying wasn’t limited to the housemates only as various companies and organisations vied for and won rights to be part of the show. These they did through adverts, sponsorships, inhouse tasks and even endorsements.

Tech companies were not left out as they contributed their own quotas to the success of the BBNaija show. Leveraging on the high viewership and popularity of the reality show, several tech companies used the platform to advertise their products.

Here are some of the tech companies that featured during the lockdown season

Flutterwave

Flutterwave is a payment technology company focused on helping banks and businesses provide seamless and secure payment experiences for their customers.

During the BBN Season 5, Flutterwave sponsored several tasks. But the most interesting took place on September 15 when housemates were given the task of hunting for treasures. Divided into three teams, the housemates were tasked with first diving into a pool in search of clue cards and then playing a game of charades with the cards they found. Finally, there’s the Flutterwave Ball Pit Hunt.

At the end of the task, Team Payment Link comprising Laycon and Ozo won the prize of N1 million. Team Invoice comprising Neo, Vee and Nengi was awarded N500,000 for coming second.

Kuda Bank

KudaBank (“Kuda”), is Nigeria’s only digital bank fully licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria. Kuda provides all the services of traditional like sending and transferring money.

In week 6, August 27, Kuda gave the housemates a task that was divided into two very exciting sessions. The first session is called the ‘Break Free skit’ while the second is the ‘Break Free Game’. Housemates were divided into three groups for this game; Team Free Bank Transfers, Team No Funny Charges and Team Free ATM Card.

At the end of the task, Team Free ATM Card comprising TrickyTee, Neo, Dorathy, Tolanibaj and Prince won the Kuda task and was awarded N1 million.

Airtel

Airtel is a popular telecommunication operator in Nigeria. It currently has the second-largest telecoms subscribers in the country.

On Week 5 in the BBNaija House and the Housemates participated in the Airtel Song Challenge tagged Airtel Meta 4 task. The task was quite straightforward. 4 teams are tasked with producing a remix of the popular Airtel *444# song. The team with the best version wins it.

Team 2 comprising of Laycon, Vee, Nengi and Tolanibaj emerged winners. The team won N2,000,000 which will be donated to the charity of their

myPaddi

myPaddi is a platform that gives young people access to much needed sexual and reproductive health information and products while ensuring complete anonymity.

On week 9, myPaddi was part of the sponsors that gave tasks to the housemates. The myPaddi task was simply a jigsaw puzzle where all housemates competed individually trying to complete the puzzle.

BBN housemate Neo was the first to finish the myPaddi jigsaw puzzle. He won one million Naira and a one-year free subscription to consult doctors and chat with counsellors on the myPaddi app.

Oppo

OPPO is a world-leading smart device manufacturer and innovator with a significant presence in Nigeria.

On September 7, Oppo shared various tasks with the housemates. First was the spelling bee contest which determined the compositions of the teams that will participate in the OPPOgraphy task. Then there was the task itself which is essentially a photography task.

TeamQuadCam comprising of DORATHY and KIDDWAYA won the OPPOgraphy Task. The team achieved images with great compositions, angles, poses and creativity using the OPPOReno3. The team won N1million cash prize & Brand New OPPOReno3 smartphones each.

Betway

The list will not be complete without the shows lead sponsor Betway. The company is an online entertainment and gaming brand. After a tough competitive bidding process involving other firms, the company became the lead sponsor for the just-concluded 2020 Big Brother Naija show.

Throughout the event, the housemates wore different brand merchandise of the company.

In one of the many tasks Betway hosted in the show, Team Black led by housemate Ozo won (BetwayNigeria Sports Trivia) a special date with DON JAZZY, as well as N1 million.
