Investing Digital Infrastructure Post-Covid-19

Following the increase in demand for digital innovations, Africa50 is organising a webinar to shed light on why Investing in Digital Infrastructure Post-COVID-19 is Critical to Africa’s Economic Recovery.

During the session, A panel of technology expert will share their experience and thoughts on how such opportunities can be turned into viable projects that will make Africa more resilient during and after this crisis. These strategies are also expected to help drive economic growth.

The webinar will also reveal the finalist of Africa50’s first innovation challenge. The challenge is focused on finding solutions to help address last mile/rural internet connectivity in Africa. The winning solutions will receive cash prizes and will be considered for project development funding.

Sourcing Funds Amid Government regulation

On Wednesday, the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) is organizing a webinar on Regulatory Environment and Civil Society Sustainability.

During the webinar, issues and solutions surrounding the survival of CSOs, sustainability and source of funding amid government regulations and pandemic will be discussed.

Datasets for more equitable machine learning

Lacuna Fund will join AI4D, Mozilla, and FAIR FORWARD to introduce the Fund’s mission to stakeholders. The webinar will also feature a panel of data scientists discussing the critical need for representative, accessible labelled data to drive more equitable machine learning.

The Fund’s first RFP on labelled data for agriculture in sub-Saharan Africa will also be presented.

Members of the panel include data scientists making labelled data in languages, agriculture, and health across the African continent.

Technology Innovation in Higher Education

On Thursday, decision makers, ICT directors and other stakeholder in higher education will come together to discuss the role of the REN in the response of Nigerian Higher Education to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the session, the panel will elaborate on the current challenges in higher education and determine requirements for an appropriate response. They will also evaluate the role of the REN in overcoming the major challenges and define a roadmap and action plan for effective support for Nigerian R&E during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event will be hosted by Professor Charles Uwadia, Chair, Eko-Konnect Research and Education Initiative and moderated by Professor Tanko Ishaya, Chairman, Committee of ICT Directors of Nigerian Universities.
