From the stats for the first week, Nollywood’s Elevator Baby was among the top earning six movies with a little over N4 million.

After a significant dip in the revenue made from cinemas for the month of September, latest statistics show that Nigerians are steadily getting their movie groove back. According to the box office figures released for the month of November by the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN), Nigerians spent a total of N449,942,977 to watch movies.

Comparing this value to the statistics released for the month of September, there has been a slight increase of 22.33% from the N367.8 million we reported. However, this increase still brings November’s gross earnings below the N657 million that was raked in for the month of August.

From the stats for the first week, Nollywood’s ‘Elevator Baby’ was among the top six movies with a little over N4 million.

With a total of N25.9 million and N24.1 million, Nollywood’s ‘Living in Bondage’ topped the chart through the second and third week. The movie relinquished the first position to Hollywood’s ‘Bridges’ and became the second highest grossing movie for the fourth week of November.

Movies like Seven, Ghost and the House of Truth, Elevator Baby, and Enemy I know brought Nollywood to the forefront of the November charts. Hollywood’s Charlie’s Angels, and Terminator: Dark Fate also pulled the crowds with Terminator topping the chart in the first week and making a final landing at the 8th position in the last weekend in November.

The last weekend in November also saw ‘Living in Bondage’ back on top of the chart as demand for Nollywood movies keeps increasing.

We reported that Nollywood movies are gaining ground over their Hollywood counterparts in terms of demand by the Nigerian movie audience. This is even more evident in the number of homegrown movies that make the top 10 position weekly each month.
