    Exciting Conversations, Insightful Workshops, Here’s What Went Down at #TechpointInspired 2019

    Tech enthusiasts, innovators and disruptors from all over Africa converged in Lagos over the weekend for the 3rd edition of the #TechpointInspired Conference. The event took place on Saturday at the 5,000-capacity Pistils Conference Centre in Lekki.

    The annual event which is touted to be West Africa’s largest tech conference was organised by Techpoint, a news publishing platform. It brought together some of the best tech minds around the continent.

    #TechpointInspired took on exciting discussions around the rapid changes Technology is effecting in Africa and the world as a whole and how to be properly positioned to take advantage of these technological changes.

    The conference had its discussions and worskshops centred around the Future of Work, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cryptocurrency, Blockchain and other new technologies.

    This year the conference featured keynote speeches from notable stakeholders and disruptors in the African tech ecosystem such as Funke Opeke, CEO, MainOne; Bosun Tijani, Co-founder / CEO, Co Creation Hub; Seni Sulyman, Vice President, Global Operations, Andela; and Lola Kassim, General Manager, West Africa, Uber amongst several others.

    Immediately after the the Keynote speeches, the conference broke out into 3 workshops. These workshops featured presentations, panels, debates, fireside chats, and question and answer (Q&A) sessions that involved experts from around the world.

    The first part of the workshops was based on “The Future of Work“. This featured discussions on what the future of work is like, how we as Africans are not ready for it yet and how tech ecosystem of Africa can get ready for this new trends.

    The second part of the workshops was on “Blockchain”. The discussions in this were geared towards identifying how blockchain can help revolutionise Africa beyond the creation of wealth through cryptocurrency. These includes – financial inclusion to unified databases, credible elections, access to credit facilities and budget tracking. The various panels also discussed the application of these technologies and its future in Africa.

    The third workshop was on “AI, Robotics and Machine Learning”. The panels outlined how AI will help Africa solve basic problems like improving healthcare, saving agriculture, or easing traffic congestion. Most importantly, they proferred solutions on how to automate processes – which is what the future is about.

    The event also featured demos from various companies as well as startups who showcased their innovations and the application of new technologies.

    The event culminated with a dinner held on Sunday. However the dinner was an exclusive event open to only the VIP attendees and the speakers.

    In Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), Nigeria’s monthly d In Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), Nigeria’s monthly data consumption of 80,000 TB(80 million GB) is only topped by South Africa, which expends up to 269,000 TB every month. Kenya and Ghana complete the four largest consumers, using 22,400 TB and 8,100 TB of monthly internet data respectively.

But, Ghana and Kenya switch places when monthly data usage is measured relative to the number of internet users. With 36.54 million internet users, South Africa still leads with 7.4gb per user. Nigeria’s 108.27 million internet subscribers see data spent per user at 0.73gb, followed by Ghana’s 0.55gb and Kenya’s 0.47gb.
