In 2023, we are improving our physical event plans to maximize social impact, and coverage…
Here are the major highlights from Technext Coinference 2.0, #TNC2022

2022 was an unprecedented year for us at Technext, event-wise. When we decided to host our first physical event in 2021, we decided to make it big: the largest blockchain gathering in Africa. And, Coinference 2021, was the biggest blockchain event in the post-pandemic African tech ecosystem.

With the theme: Reimaging the future of finance, the event provided a visible platform for key players in the African crypto ecosystem to discuss the possibilities of cryptocurrencies to position for future leverage.

We had two interesting panel sessions. The first focused on regulation and saw representatives from the government and other key players in the ecosystem. As you know, Panel speakers include Uzoma Dozie, CEO of Sparkle; Buchi Okoro, CEO of Quidax; Dickson Nsofor, CEO of Korapay; Austin Okere, founder of CWG; Nkemdili Uwaje, CEO of Future Software; and Chimezie Chuta, Founder of the Blockchain Nigeria User Group.

The second panel session focused on innovation and how founders solve blockchain challenges across Africa. Panellists include Emmanuel Babalola, Africa Director at Binance and Interim CEO of Bundle; Modibe Matsepena, Senior Associate of Growth in Africa at Paxful; Founder of Aza Pay, Jacqueline Madu; Osamede Arhunmwunde, Co-founder at GIGX technologies and Bitmama CEO, Ruth Iselema.

Being a hybrid event, it had in attendance a total of 2,162 cryptocurrency enthusiasts, innovators and regulators.

Realising that we could not exhaust all the germane talking points in one event, we decided to hold 2 separate events the following year. The first will focus on “regulation”, and the second will feature conversations around “innovation” in the space.

So, in July 2022, we hosted  GAT Summit (Government and Tech Summit) to focus on engendering a conversation between government policymakers, political influencers, tech industry players, and enthusiasts in Africa.

The event had in attendance the Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Inuwa Abdullahi and Olatubosun Alake, Special Adviser on Innovation and Technology to the Governor of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The event had about 6000 attendees, 1000 people in attendance and 16 other speakers on two insightful panel sessions.

And in October 2022, we hosted the second edition of Coinference with a pure focus on innovators, their innovations and the social impact. The event had 2 keynote presentations, 4 breakout panel sessions, 1 plenary panel and one celebrity spotlight session.

In 2023, we are improving our physical event plans to maximize social impact and coverage and align with our corporate objective of documenting the African tech narrative in a language everyone can understand.

Below are important things you must note:

Au revoir, GAT Summit

We have decided to rest our policy engagement event, Government and Tech (GAT) Summit, until further notice for some reasons.

One of the biggest obstacles we faced in the buildup to GAT Summit 2022 was the availability of speakers (especially from the regulators’ end). Recall that 2022 was a pre-election year in Nigeria. Hence, most of the key players in government were involved in party elections campaigns and pre-primaries drive.

Up to the morning of the event, the availability of some of the keynote speakers was in doubt because of political exigencies. We had last-minute cancellations and a gracious representation for the Lagos State Governor. To be honest, we are not very familiar with such tensions, and we have decided not to repeat the process, especially in an election year.

GAT Summit may be back when hopefully, Nigeria has gained some political stability.

So, we promise to take your brand along as far as our event announcements will go.
