Donald Trump launches NFT collection ahead of Christmas

Former US President Donald Trump has unveiled a limited-edition collection of his non-fungible tokens.

The renowned businessman was famous for launching branded products before his sojourn to the White House. Donald Trump has now increased his product offerings by unveiling the Donald Trump Digital Trading Card Collection via Trump’s Truth Social account: He wrote,

“This would make a great Christmas gift. Don’t Wait. “They will be gone, I believe, very quickly!”

The buzz tells us that there are diverse reactions to Donald’s decision to launch his non-fungible tokens amidst his pursuit to reclaim the presidential seat of arguably the most powerful nation in the world.

The tokens are photos of Trump; one is a palpably leaner version of Trump. Another card depicts Trump as a laser-shooting-eye superhero, with his hands designed to be more prominent in an attempt at creativity. Then, there is a cowboy design filled with trails of military fatigues.

Having openly denied fundraising for the 2024 presidential campaigns, Trump describes his NFT as a great Christmas gift, urging fans to acquire them quickly because they will be gone if slept on.

According to the announcement, the Trump Digital Trading Cards will be minted on the Polygon (MATIC) network, and buyers can use Ethereum (ETH) to buy these NFTs.

The Perks of having Donald Trump’s NFTs

Holders of the Trump NFT have a chance to get 100 unique cards. With this provision, Trump envisages involving and getting to know more Americans via physical meetings and virtual chats.

Each of these NFTs costs $99 to purchase. Significantly, the real estate tycoon initially revealed that there was a pending announcement via Truth Social, one of his numerous tech projects.

The backlash against Donald Trump’s NFTs Announcement

The announcement has received crazy backlash from different angles since it dropped. Many people are unhappy about his decision to launch his NFTs at a time when there are controversies about his bid to re-contest for the presidential position in 2024.

Others referenced that Trump was formerly known to be a “crypto critic”—a fierce antagonist to the idea of cryptocurrency; majorly, he was identified as “anti-Bitcoin.”

Chicago Tribune popular columnist had this to say: 

“This is what it’s come to? A twice-impeached former president who incited an attack on our nation’s Capitol and refused to participate in the peaceful transfer of power, a man facing multiple state and federal investigations, has been reduced to hocking self-aggrandizing NFTs. (I wish that stood for No Further Trumps.)

It’s funny unless you think about the thousands of Trump loyalists who will buy up these soon-to-be worthless digital thingies for Christmas gifts, giving more of their hard-earned money to a man who … well, a man who thinks he’s worthy of being on overpriced digital trading cards.” 

“Trump takes a bad week and makes himself a superhero”, another group said. 

Ingrid Jacques, a columnist at USA Today, said, 

“I’ll admit it’s funny, but this all sounds desperate to me. Trump is already behind in fundraising, with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis outperforming with some of the big donors who used to back Trump. 

And several polls this week show Trump lagging in support, with two-thirds of GOP and GOP-leaning voters lining up behind DeSantis in a hypothetical 2024 match. 

Trump must still be recovering from how horribly his anointed candidates did in the recent midterm elections. Even ardent Trump supporters have realized it’s time for him to go away. 

All this news must drive Trump crazy. But no matter how much he wants to be the superhero, it doesn’t seem like the American people are buying it”
