Digital bookkeeping is the process of keeping all accounting and business records online. This is one of the major concepts that Nigerian fintech platforms are incorporating into their services right now as people are increasingly shifting away from the old and traditional method of tracking business payments and revenues on paper, toward the cutting-edge digital bookkeeping and accounting system.
While some have created a platform that includes all business services, including social commerce, others are more concerned with creating a better bookkeeping system for small business owners.
In this review, we’ll take a look at the Dukka app, a fintech platform that claims to offer business owners the best digital bookkeeping tools in a single app.
About the Dukka App
The Dukka app, which was designed to assist small businesses in tracking their sales and expenses, was officially released in 2021.
The total size of the app is 16MB, which is appropriate for the services it provides. It also requires Android 5.0 or higher to function. At the time of writing, the app had received over 10,000 downloads from the PlayStore since its initial release.
The Dukka app offers the following features: tracking business transactions, free digital invoice and receipt generation, a barcode scanner, debt collection, multiple payment options, and more.
Here is a deeper look at the app’s design, usability, features and services, as well as some feedback from other users you might find helpful.
Getting started with the Dukka app may appear satisfying because the sign-up process has the feel of a real conversation, which is fun.
It is also very simple to use because it only requires basic information such as the email address, phone number, business name, and a four-digit password.
The app’s background is different from other platforms that offer similar services. The app has only two colours in total, and the instructions are displayed in a faded font that may be difficult to read.
The taskbar is located in the upper left corner of the app and contains about ten features: Home, Orders, Sales, Inventory, Customers, Expenses, Invoices, Performance, Rewards, and Help to allow users to navigate the app and understand how to keep track of and manage their business records.
Ease of use
The app interface appears to be very basic, which is not exciting. Although each feature has a tag name and an image icon for easier navigation, the app has fewer sub-sections.
Business performance report
The app’s main goal is to help elevate the concept of bookkeeping. With this feature, business owners can automatically track business transactions and record sales and expenses as they occur on a daily basis.
Business owners can also view sales data and generate reports on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis.
Digital invoicing and receipts
The app assists small business owners in creating free invoices and receipts for their customers. This is a fantastic feature because it will help to clarify transactions and prevent further ramifications.
These free invoices and receipts can be printed with the brand name attached to them and distributed via email, Bluetooth, and WhatsApp, among other methods.
A bar code scanner is an excellent tool for business owners. According to the app description, the barcode scanner will enable scan to checkout and scan to restock inventories. However, because there are no instructions, some users may struggle to use it.
Furthermore, while testing it, the scanner scans every barcode but does not display any information about the product scanned, implying that there is no difference between scanning a barcode and manually entering product details.
Multiple Payment Option
This app also has a variety of payment options, including cash, bank, and credit. Users can choose to buy now and pay later. To facilitate faster business transactions, business owners can use the app to set up a debt collection reminder.
Debt collection reminder
This feature is a great bookkeeping tool in a society where some customers prefer to buy on credit. The app description states that business owners can set debt collection reminders for credit customers who owe them money.
While exploring the app, I also discovered that users can generate invoices to send to customers regarding unpaid transactions and also.
The app interface may be discouraging for those looking for an exciting and vibrant app to bookkeep their business transactions. Furthermore, all transactions on the app cannot be edited or deleted, which can be difficult, particularly if the numbers were entered incorrectly.
The app also does not support the back button; pressing it immediately exits the app. The only way to navigate the app is through the three dots in the upper left corner, which can be tedious.
A POS terminal service was also mentioned by the app team, but there is no such feature or information on the app other than the FAQ page.
Overall, I believe there are other apps that provide the same or more services than the Dukka app, maybe an upgrade will set them apart from competitors in the market.
