Hello people, it’s already the end of the week and it seems like my colleague’s prediction at the beginning of the month that this would be a slow month, has thankfully proved to be wrong.
August seems to be racing fast to usher us into the ember months and we are here for it.
This week on the social space, many conversations were had, some were political and others were not. as usual we bring you the conversations that caught our attention during the week.
Mercy Chinwo’s wedding outfits raise debate
One conversation across the social media space this week that caught my attention was the conversation started by gospel music minister, Mercy Chinwo who wedded her husband, pastor Blessed, last weekend and gave life in all her bridal outfits while being absolutely gorgeous, modest and all covered up.
Mercy Chinwo trended on mostly Twitter and Facebook for the modesty in her bridal outfits with many advising brides to emulate Chinwo’s modesty and cover up on their wedding day instead of the barely clad brides with boobs all out on display and long thigh slits which have become the current trend for brides.
While some were of the opinion that brides should be allowed to wear whatever makes them happy on their wedding day, many in the conversation were advocating for modesty using Mercy Chinwo as a perfect example.
Have you been to a wedding recently? from the brides to the bridal train, it is often a garish display of body parts which we would rather not see, to be honest.
As Mercy Chinwo has proven with her choice of bridal attires both for her traditional, civil and church wedding, we now know it is possible to dress modestly and look amazing while having fun on your wedding day.
Brides to be, borrow a leaf from Mercy, as the popular saying goes, less, is more!
Tiwa Savage and somebody’s son
Earlier in the week, a video made the rounds on social media where a popular Nigeria afrobeat queen could be heard basically telling fans in one of her sold-out shows that the “man she was referring to in her viral somebody’s son song is none other than…wait for it…our Lord Jesus Christ!
Tiwa Savage made this claim during one of the performances at her just concluded Water and Garri Tour which took her across 13 Cities in 11 countries.
She commenced the tour with the North American leg with her first show in Chicago on Thursday, June 9th, 2022. The eight-city tour ended at the Commodore Ballroom, Vancouver, Canada. The tour covered many cities in the United States of America and Canada before continuing to Europe. She also had a sold-out show at the 02 Academy Brixton.
Well, if you understand Yoruba and have heard the lyrics of the song, you would understand why people had a hard time believing Tiwa’s claim. AAAhh aunty!
One of the lines that made people doubt Tiwas’ claim is the line in the song that goes” Alakori ni bob yin se” which translates to ” He is a very naughty boy”. Well, people obviously didn’t believe this Fabu by Aunty Tiwa (Jesus cannot be naughty) and it has since become cruise material on Twitter.

Asake expresses gratitude to Olamide
Speaking of somebody’s son, Asake shared his wins on social media and thanked SOMEBODY’S SON, Olamide for changing his life. This caused Nigerian rapper, Phyno to take some unexpected stray bullets.
Hot new sensation, Asake took to his social media to share his wins, he shared a picture of himself posing in front of what looked like a new house with the caption “from hustling for free bedspace to investing in real estate.”
Prior to that, he tweeted, “one call from Olamide changed everything” which was an appreciation to Olamide who discovered him and brought him to the limelight by signing him to the YBNL record label where he has released several hits like Sungba, Omo Ope and several hits.
Fans joined Asake to commend Olamide for bringing up stars like AG Baby, Fireboy, Lilkesh, and a host of others.
Meanwhile, another somebody’s son, Phyno got stray bullets as fans dragged Phyno for not raising anyone like his friend Olamide is doing. Many accused him and Flavour of being selfish and not helping raise talented young stars from the East part of Nigeria.
The conversation sounds low-key entitled as helping people should be voluntary not something one should be shamed or bullied into doing. Does Phyno or Flavour owe talented eastern artists a responsibility of bringing them to the spotlight?

Netflix’s’Young, Famous & African’ renewed for season 2
Netflix’s debut African unscripted series ‘Young, Famous & African’ is set to return to the streamer for its second season.
The producer of the show peace hyde made this announcement via her social media:
The show features popular African acts like 2Baba and his wife Annie Idibia, Diamond Platnumz and ex-wife Zari Hassan who is also a successful businesswoman, Nigerian celebrity stylist Swanky Jerry, Khanyi Mbau, and DJ Naked among others. The show is set in South Africa.
The first season of the unscripted show debuted in March to a massive reception from subscribers, with Annie and innocent Idibia being the number trending gist both among co-stars and the show audience.
This is good news and we look forward to seeing the cast members who will be returning or new ones added for this second season.
