Cross-border payment company, Changera has announced the relaunch of its product with new features including virtual domiciliary bank accounts and as well as an overhaul of its brand identity.

The long-awaited renaissance features a completely new look, as well as major product upgrades and the relaunching of features such as virtual domiciliary bank accounts and dollar cards.

According to a statement by the company, this is consistent with Changera’s mission of making money accessible, borderless, and limitless for the African market.

Now, customers can take advantage of the virtual euro, pound and dollar domiciliary accounts on Changera to facilitate international payments from anywhere. Customers can also easily convert to local currency using their virtual bank accounts, just like they do with their regular bank accounts.

Changera now provides working dollar virtual cards with over $10,000 limits. It also can be funded with local currencies – naira, cedis or Kenyan shillings.

For many African travellers, freelancers, remote workers, and businesses, this is a deal breaker. According to Nana Afua, Head of products, this is just the beginning of many exciting things.

Our relaunch restates our commitment towards building the ultimate borderless social payments app for Africans. This represents months of work and Changera users can now do a lot more with their money on their app. We have more in line over the next couple of months, but our users can start with this for now.

The most exciting part of the new feature is that the process of opening a domiciliary account as well as obtaining a dollar card can be completed in minutes using the Changera app. However, new users must upgrade their accounts to a “freelancer” or “premium” subscription mode in order to access the services.

Other new features:

Referral Program: Among the features being introduced by the payment platform is a referral program to reward loyal customers. When a referred friend completes a transaction on the Changera app, these users can earn a commission for up to three years. There are various referral programs for all services rendered by a user’s referral.

Changers Community: The fintech company is also introducing an online community platform on the Discord app. This is simply a platform for users to interact and meet. It is also a means of providing feedback to the Changera team about its services.

The community platform has a lifestyle feel to it, with users able to catch up on trending conversations in music, travel, sports, and entertainment, among other things.

The most exciting aspect of this feature is the “Japa” support channel, which will help young Africans to fulfil their aspirations to live and work in other countries.

Rebranding Changera

Launched in 2021, Changera, the flagship product of Bitmama Inc., aims to bridge the cross-border payment gap that exists when doing country-to-country funds transfers within Africa and globally, tackling one of the major problems attached to digital remittance. The end goal is to make international money transactions affordable, simple, borderless and limitless.

Speaking on the brand relaunch, Ebovi Wali, Head Changera said that the idea of the relaunch is to allow the team to better meet the local and international payment needs of their customers.

“We also now serve a wider range of users – remote workers & freelancers, small & medium businesses, and African migrants – through our virtual accounts that come with dollar cards. What is unique here is that our users do not have to go through rigorous KYC, queue in a bank, or get a referee to open a domiciliary account or get a dollar card, they can do that in minutes on our app”, he adds.

Changera allows users to fund with naira and spend dollars beyond the $20 limit initiated by traditional institutions and also to convert their local currency and store their cash in multiple multi-currency wallets.

The startup provides virtual and physical dollar cards issued by MasterCard and VISA that can be used on all local and international online and offline payment channels. The app is available for download on the Appstore and Google Play.
