NCC Suspends Sale, Registration of SIM Cards Pending Conclusion of Compliance Audit Exercise

April was a combination of the exhilarating and the bizarre, according to Google search. And, this mix influenced what people looked for on Google. Nigerians’ interests were evenly spread across politics, entertainment, and drama, with the most frequently asked questions dominating the month’s Google search results.

This focus, on the other hand, is on the most frequently searched topics compiled by Google based on what Nigerians searched throughout the time period.

NIN-SIM Linkage

The topic of NIN-SIM linkage has been ongoing for months, but on April 4, 2022, the Federal Government of Nigeria took a bold step by ordering telecoms service providers to prohibit outbound calls from unlinked sims lines (both old and new).

Before imposing these restrictions, the government had granted these unconnected sim line users a considerable period of grace.

This was the most searched question by Nigerian on Google search trends in April.

The order affected about 73 million SIMs. The NCC has cleared the minds of people who believe this was just a temporary move by the government that the only available option for the affected SIM card holders is to register for NIN or link their sims to existing NINs.
