YouTube, the global video-sharing network, has released its top ten content creator lists for 2021 as part of a celebration of the platform’s most memorable events in Nigeria.

YouTube’s 2021 creators list represents the growing popularity of unique material produced by Nigerian creators on the network.

This year’s top ten Nigerian YouTube creators list released on Wednesday includes a wide range of creatives who share entertainment-related content such as comedy skits and movies.

HouseOfAjebo, Official Broda Shaggi, ApataTV+, Bakori TV, Lightweight Entertainment, and Mr. Macaroni were among the top content creators who made the list.

HouseOfAjebo, which was top on the list of top creators, is a YouTube channel that shares hilarious animated comedy videos and is managed by popular stand-up comedian, Erem Emeka Nehemiah, also known as Ajebo.

Samuel Animashaun Perry, also known as Broda Shaggi, a popular comedian known for his “agbero” lifestyle-related skits, was the next top creator on YouTube in Nigeria this year.

The third, fourth, and fifth places on the list were shared by movie sharing channels like ApataTV+, Bakori TV, and Lightweight Entertainment, which share cultural and lifestyle-centric videos.

The other five on the list of top content creators are Mr Macaroni, Taaooma’s Cabin, Saira movies, Yoruba Plus, and BrainJotter Comedian.

YouTube has made millionaires out of many creators and has helped to promote the idea that someone can become rich just by recording themselves doing something or talking about a particular thing.

Content creators weren’t the only items on the YouTube 2021 Top Ten lists as the video-sharing platform also released its top ten most trending music videos for the year.

Chiké and Simi’s “Running to You“, Teni’s “For You” featuring Davido, and WizKid’s Essence featuring Tems are the top three music videos that trended the most this year on the platform.

The list of most viewed music videos by Nigerians in 2021 on YouTube also included Wizkid’s “Ginger” featuring BurnaBoy, Davido’s “The Best” featuring Mayorkun, and Davido’s “La La” featuring Ckay.

According to the company, the top trending videos on YouTube for 2021 are chosen based on a variety of variables other than viewing.

The company also examines interactions as well as signals such as shares and likes. YouTube’s Top Ten Lists for 2021 pull together the most popular videos in Nigeria from artists, celebrities, and mainstream media with a YouTube presence.

In this year’s list of top trending videos in Nigeria, the Yoruba movie “President Kuti” shared by the YorubaPlus channel was at the top of the list. The movie starred actors like Ibrahim Yekini, Bimpe Oyebade, and Odunlade Adekola.

Tetracycline and Septrin, a comedic skit video from HouseOfAjebo, came in second in the country. “Abebi,” starring Odunlade Adekola, and “Ete,” starring Bolanle Ninalowo, were among the trending videos that inspired Nigerians to click “play.”

On YouTube’s breakout creators list for 2021, HouseOfAjebo also made it to the top of the list, with acts like Brainjotter Comedian, Oga Sabinus, Zicsaloma, and De General, amongst many others, also making the list.

YouTube Short, which is a short-timed video alternative similar to that of Instagram and Tiktok, has also received attention from Nigerian creatives who are also creating unique and creative short content.

SwagboyQ made it to the top of the list of 2021 Top Ten Shorts Creators in Nigeria, with Rosey Lucci, Daniel LaBelle, and 2slim TV following on the list.
