Hi guys! It’s the end of another week and we hope you had an amazing week. A lot has been happening in the world of social media, from CBN freezing the accounts of fintech companies to the BBNaija saga. So just relax and grab some popcorn as we bring you the top trending stories this week.

CBN freezes accounts of 4 fintech startups

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) obtained a court order to freeze the accounts of at least four investment technology startups. The startups include Risevest, Chaka, Bamboo and Trove Finance. According to the apex bank, the fintechs were operating outside of the scope of their licenses.

The CBN also accused the companies of compromising the value of the naira, insisting it is trying to rescue and sustain naira. However, this has brought up many reactions from Nigerians, especially those that have their money in these investments firms.

With the accounts to remain frozen for 180 days, some of the companies have moved to assure users that their funds and investments are safe regardless of what happens.

Afghanistan in crises after Taliban takes over

The Taliban has taken over control of the Afghan government

The Taliban has taken over control of Afghanistan, a country in the middle east. Hundreds of people trooped to Kabul’s international airport desperately seeking to make it out of the country. Some were seen hanging to the sides of military aircraft with their bare hands as planes taxied the runway.

These pitiable sights and the general repressive rule of the Ghani Baradar-led government had led to an outpouring of sentiments across social media. Many of the reactions condemned the Taliban and called for an open corridor for people to escape the Taliban.

Many Nigerians also expressed concerns that terrorist groups in the country like Boko Haram, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) might become encouraged by this development and bold enough to push for a similar takeover.

With western governments already recognising the Taliban leaders of Afghanistan, it remains to be seen the extent of impact it would have on global politics.

Boma and Queen

The drama continues to heat up at the BBNaija house and sometimes it can be impossible to keep up. First is the major beef developing between immediate former Head of House, Pere and Whitemoney who is considered to be his major competitor.

And you should trust social media famz, they will always have one or two things to say about what is going on.

Boma also got into trouble after losing hold of Queen and kinda losing himself in the process while Queen seems to be moving on to White Money and this has gotten mouths talking.

The saga will definitely continue until a winner emerges and we will keep updating you by the week.
