Some of these features include text addition to specific duration points in the video, the ability to record up to 60 seconds with the Shorts camera, ability to add clips from the phone gallery to recordings made with the Shorts camera.

Other features include filter options to add colour, effects and vibrancy to the Shorts videos and caption additions.

Global Product Manager for YouTube Shorts, Todd Sherman, says the entire purpose is to make it easy and fun for creators to create content.

“We want to make it easy and fun to create Shorts. As we continue to build Shorts alongside our creators and artists, we’ll be adding more features for users to try”.

Shorts will be integrated to the YouTube platform thereby allowing users to fully access full songs and music videos just from listening to snippets on a Shorts video thereby improving the experience.

YouTube aims to help a generation of creators turn their creativity into money-making ventures as well as help music artists reach a wide audience by listing their songs in the media library to be used for video creation. The video platform recently announced the $100m YouTube Shorts Fund which is aimed at rewarding content creators.

“We know that it will take us time to get this right and we’re just getting started. We can’t wait for you to try Shorts and help us build a first-class short-form video experience right on YouTube”, Sherman said.
