Hi guys, welcome to the last week in June. To round off the old month and kickstart the new one, we have curated a list of interesting events in the African tech scene just for you.

The events come up between June 28th – 3rd of July, 2021.

Samsung Galaxy MWC Virtual Event

This Monday, Samsung Galaxy MWC event will be holding virtually. The event will give us the first look of Samsung and Google’s new upcoming smartwatch platform — the merge of Wear OS and Tizen.

The event will also focus on the Galaxy ecosystem, its new watch experience, and mobile security.

The event description shows that the Galaxy ecosystem will provide people with choice, freedom, and possibility. Reimagination of the smartwatches for both developers and consumers, and enhanced security for users in an open and connected world.

NFTs in Africa

On Tuesday, Binance will be hosting a panel of African NFT creators to discuss the opportunities for NFTs in Africa. They will look at the basics of NFTs, their use cases and what makes them so valuable.

Then there will be a deep dive into each creator’s individual journey into crypto and NFTs, what the collectables mean to them and the stories behind the NFTs they have listed. Finally, the panel will talk about how to get started with buying and selling NFTs.

The panel includes Africa’s foremost rapper MI Abaga and TikTok influencer, Wian Van Den Berg. It also includes African crypto artist, Osinachi, and the director of MUDA facilitating the digital display of artefacts from the Uganda National Museum, Suleiman Murunga.

Cross Border Payment

This Tuesday, Fintech Association of Nigeria will be hosting an international webinar titled CBDC & Cross Border Payment: Interoperability, Technology & Regulation.

During the webinar, experts will examine what the Bahamas and Cambodia have done and what African countries can learn from it taking into consideration our peculiarities.

It will also share insights into how regulators from other countries are currently navigating the terrain and the outlook for Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs).
