Say Hello to Galaxy A52

Samsung Unveils Galaxy A52, A52-5G and A72 among other Interesting Updates at its Unpacked Event

The Galaxy A52 comes with a 6.5-inch AMOLED screen and is the most affordable of the phones unveiled by Samsung today. It is resistant to water and dust because of its IP67 rating and has a 4,500-mAh battery, 25-watt fast charging. All A52 phones will work on 4G LTE but will not support 5G.

For the camera, it has a 32-megapixel selfie camera and four rear-facing cameras: 12-megapixel ultrawide, 5-megapixel macro, a 5-megapixel depth camera with 10x digital zoom, and a 64-megapixel wide-angle.

A52’s display has an FHD Plus resolution, a 90Hz refresh rate the selfie camera and it comes in violet, black, blue and white colour variations.

A52 with the 5G

This is a more advanced model of the A52 in that it supports 5G internet connectivity. Simply named A52 5G, it has all the features of the A52 as well as a higher refresh rate screen of 120HZ instead of the former’s 90HZ.

This model costs more than its counterpart and works on any carrier that offers sub-6GHz 5G. Like the other phones, it is built on an unspecified octa-core (dual 2.3GHz + Hexa 1.8GHz) processor and will ship with Android 11 and Samsung’s One UI 3.0. Like the other models, it will also have storage variants of 128GB and 256GB with RAM configurations that will vary by region.

A72 with the 6.7 inch screen

This is the most expensive of the models as it comes with some upgraded specs. For battery, it has a larger 5,000-mAh battery and an 8-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. Unlike the A52 5G, it operates the same 90Hz high refresh-rate as the A52. It has no support for 5G yet and only works on 4G LTE but has a larger screen size of 6.7-inches.

These phones have more tech and cost less

The Galaxy A52 costs 349 euros (about $415), the A52 5G goes for 429 euros ($510) while the A72 is 449 euros ($534). The US prices for each model has not been announced yet but it is expected to be lower than the current equivalents of Europe prices since the cost in Europe includes taxes. The models are available from Wednesday but Samsung is yet to clarify which regions.

Compared to the A51 that launched in 2020, these models are also competitively priced and will appeal to middle-class shoppers who will appreciate the amount of tech offered in these phones. Galaxy A51 sold for $400 for the 4G version, $500 for the A51 with 5G. The A71 5G costs $650 for ultrafast millimetre-wave 5G at Verizon or $600 at other carriers. A52, A52 5G and A72 all have close prices with the previous series and more tech appeal.

All of the phones have the IP67 water and dust resistance, a 64-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization and brighter screens with faster refresh rates. They also have a microSD card slot for expandable storage and will go to each buyer with a charging brick in the box.
