From Bikes and Cargo Boxes, Nigeria’s Kwik Delivery Includes Vans and Pickups to its Last-mile Service

Nigerian app-based logistics startup, Kwik Delivery, has included 4-wheel vehicles to its last-mile delivery operation. This is in a bid to expand its service offering to include same-day delivery of larger goods and merchandise from its clients in Lagos and Abuja.

Vehicles added to its service include hatchbacks, pick-ups, SUV, vans and small trucks up to 5 tons. With this new equipment, the company looks to expand beyond the limitations of bikes and cargo boxes to take on larger tasks and complete the delivery of heavier merchandise.

Kwik Delivery Founder and CEO, Romain Poirot-Lellig, explained that the latest development was borne out of the yearning of the company’s customers who have indicated their wish to use the company’s platform for the delivery of larger goods and delivery on a same-day basis.

“By enlarging its platform to these new larger types of vehicles, the Kwik platform becomes the first full-stack last-mile delivery platform in Nigeria,” he added.

Kwik Delivery is an on-demand, last-mile delivery platform that aims to connect African businesses to independent delivery riders. In essence, it acts as an aggregator which connects logistics demand with the appropriate suppliers.

Launched in June 2019, the logistics startup entered the market on the back of a $350,000 investment and several months of beta-testing its solution. The B2B platform which currently operates in Lagos and Abuja went on to secure an undisclosed amount of funding from the founders of French video game company, Ubisoft to expand its business. And such an expansion couldn’t come bigger than this. 

According to the company, customers can request a delivery vehicle, track their shipment in real-time and benefit from many additional vehicles. The 4-wheels vehicle can be booked for same-day delivery or for any future date and loaders can be requested as well.

With this development, the company has touted itself as the first full-stack last-mile delivery platform in Nigeria. But with these major additions and expansions, it might just be a matter of time before the company starts looking beyond the last-mile.
