Social Media Roundup: #ThunderFireYou, Emefiele, 14th Headies and Other Stories

Hi guys! Trust you had a great week. As you enjoy your weekend, take a moment to sit back and relax as we bring you the many trends that have been making the rounds across social media.

Emefiele and the money sprouting out of thin air

CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele appeared before the Nigerian senate to explain the apex bank’s reasons for clamping down on crypto dealings by individuals and businesses in the country.

According to him, crypto is “money created out of thin air and used to describe players in an electronic dark world”.

But many people were not impressed by Emefiele’s presentation which seemed to project the CBN governor’s shallow knowledge of cryptocurrency.

Ric Hassani’s “Thunder Fire You”

Nigerian R&B crooner, Ric Hassani surprised fans with the release of his latest single, Thunder Fire You. Well-known for his smooth lovey-dovey tunes, this was rather unexpected from Hassani.

The song was probably birthed on the back of a terrible heartbreak which the Only You singer suffered, maybe recently..

For many social media users, what makes the song unique is the way Hassani hurls the insults in his usual soft, soothing voice.

Meanwhile, Hassani says the song has been banned by the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) perhaps because of the curse words. However, there have been several songs with really vulgar language like Kizz Daniel’s Fuck You that weren’t banned, so this appears to be a case of double standards from the NBC.

Underwhelming Headies

Nigeria’s top music awards event, The Headies staged its 14th edition on Sunday. But the hybrid event didn’t live up to its hype despite being graced by the likes of Wizkid, Tu Baba and Fireboy.

The 14th Headies had Over 34k Viewers on YouTube Until it Didn’t

Technical faults meant viewers had to make do with poor audio quality and were abruptly cut off from the YouTube Livestream and TV broadcast.

However, trust Nigerians to always catch cruise regardless.

The show’s co-host, Bovi was widely lauded for his outfit, a tee with a picture of the blood-stained Nigerian flag from the #EndSARS protests serving to remember victims of the #Lekkimassacre.

Lautech Sex Video, Again?

Another sex tape from the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) made the rounds across social media this week, making it the second time in two weeks an x-rated video is emanating from those quarters.

Lautech is fast becoming associated with leaked sex videos and various social media users had their say on the matter.
