Young African Entrepreneurs Can now Apply to Win $100k Anzisha Prize

Applications for the latest cohort of the 2021 Anzisha Prize fellowship program are currently open to young African entrepreneurs. The Anzisha prize program is the product of a partnership between the African Leadership Academy and the Mastercard Foundation.

Successful candidates would be admitted into the program and stand a chance of winning their share of the $100,000 Anzisha prize.

Despite the disruptive impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, youths across Africa continue to find ways to create sustainable solutions to some of the biggest problems faced by their communities. The Anzisha prize program presents an opportunity for young entrepreneurs to develop leadership skills and access funds to grow their businesses.

Eligibility

Applicants must be between 15 and 22 years old with an ID document or Passport to present as evidence.

Applicants must be nationals of an African country with a business based in Africa for African customers. The Anzisha Prize isn’t awarded for great ideas or business plans – candidates must have already started a business and be able to prove it.

Entrepreneurs running businesses in any field or industry including science and technology, civil society, arts and culture, sports etc are welcome to apply.

Individuals who apply must be one of the founding members of a business. For example, the individual applicant could be one of 2 or 3 co-founders who started up the project together.

How to Apply

To begin applying for the 2021 Anzisha prize, applicants should log on to the Anzisha website.

Candidates can then choose any of the four (4) languages to proceed. Applicants can go on to access French, Arabic or Portuguese applications. For English, continue here.

Sign up to create your account using your full name, email and password. Once your account has been successfully created, you can then start the main application process for the Anzisha Prize. Asterisked (*) sections are required.

Step 1: Fill in Personal Details

Enter your personal information including your date of birth, gender, residential address and a brief biography about yourself.

Also upload your ID document, preferably your passport.

Step 2: Enter Contact Information

Provide your contact information such as your full name, email, mobile number, nationality and country of residence.

Step 3: Input Business Information

At this stage, enter all required information on your venture or project as shown in the video clip below.

Steps 4 – 6: Describe Leadership Potential & Upload Profile/Project Photos

Under step 4, briefly explain, in not more than 250 words, how your project has equipped you as a leader.

For steps 5 and 6, upload your professional photo, signature, project photos, logo and tick the verification form checkbox. Answer the entrepreneur survey questions and Submit to complete your application.

Eligible candidates have six (6) weeks to apply for the 2021 Anzisha prize. Applications close on 30th April 2021. Phone interviews and the final selection of candidates are scheduled to commence in May.

The top 20 Finalists of the 2021 edition of the Anzisha Prize are expected to be announced in August. The Anzisha Prize Awards grand finale is scheduled to take place later in October.
