Social Media Roundup: Nigerians Kick Against CBN Clampdown on Cryptos

Hi guys! Trust you had a great week. While you’re going about your weekend plans, take a moment to sit back and relax as we bring you the many trends that have been making the rounds across social media.

CBN clamps down on cryptos

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) sent shockwaves across Nigeria’s crypto community after mandating all banks and regulated financial institutions to immediately cease facilitating crypto transactions for individuals and businesses.

This came at a time when Nigeria’s crypto market is thriving and several Nigerians have lambasted the government for trying to stifle the innovation and restrict access to economic prosperity for youths in the country.

For clarity, crypto trading remains legal in Nigeria, but banking institutions are prohibited from facilitating payments for crypto exchanges. Peer-to-peer (P2P) trading, whereby users can transact cryptos among themselves is a means to circumvent this.

MC Oluomo’s ‘Service to Humanity’

MC Oluomo wrote a book! But as surprising as that was, it is the book’s title My Service to Humanity that raised controversy among social media users.

The current Chairman of the Lagos chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya is best known for the thuggish and brutish nature of the organization he heads. Oluomo is basically the Kingpin of agberos in the state.

To many people, that sums up his “service to humanity” and the book is only a means to remedy his negative publicity while he tries to fulfil a governorship ambition many people believe he nurses.

However, some people felt there was no ulterior motive behind the book.

Others simply offered comic relief.

A Twitter user, Uloma set social media ablaze with a tweet that can best be described as “misandrist” in nature.
