Bad Boys for Life, Mulan; Here are the Highest Grossing Movies on Netflix in 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic dealt a serious blow to Box offices across the world this year. Most of the anticipated blockbusters like Wonder Woman had to be delayed due to most cinemas being shut down for an extended period.

Although Wonder Woman 1984 is finally coming out at Christmas, the total grossing of movies this year can not hit the $42.5 billion milestone recorded in 2019.

Instead of cinemas, Box offices had to depend on streaming platforms to release movies and rake in some revenue this year. Netflix was one of the most popular streaming platforms people turned to for entertainment.

So, we are examining some of its highest grossing movies of 2020.

    5. Malang

Malang is an Indian/Hindi romantic action thriller about Advait and his lover, Sara, a free-spirited girl. After an unfortunate incident involving cops separates their love, Advait goes on a killing spree with police officers, Aghase and Michael trying to catch him.

The movie was launched in February and has grossed over $8,399,765.

    4. 365Days

365 Days is an erotic movie that took Netflix by storm this year. The movie was about Massimo, a Sicilian Mafia family boss, who kidnapped Laura, a sales director and gave her a 365 days ultimatum to fall in love with him.

The intense romance and sex appeal in the movie was often compared with the renowned 50Shades trilogy. The film spent an incredible 45 consecutive days on the Top 10 charts and grossed $9,458,590 worldwide.

    3. Blood Shot

This year, Vin Diesel came in with a bang while playing Ray Garrison, a slain soldier re-animated with superpowers in Bloodshot. Released in March, the movie has already grossed over $33,542,457.

    2. Mulan

Bad Boys for Life, Mulan; Here are the Highest Grossing Movies on Netflix in 2020

Mulan is a live-action remake of Disney’s 1998 animated film of the same name, based on the Chinese folklore “The Ballad of Mulan”. In the movie,  Hua Mulan disguises herself as a man to join the army in the stead of her sickly father – Hua Zhou, during a general conscription.

The movie was released in September and has already grossed over $66,800,000. Read our review of the movie here.

    1. Bad Boys for Life

In a super come back, action comedy film Bad Boys was back on screen with its latest sequel Bad Boys for Life. In the movie, Miami detectives, Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett must face off against a mother-and-son pair of drug lords who wreak vengeful havoc on their city.

The film was released on January 15 and has already grossed over 426,505,244.

The above list is based on box office rankings from Box Office Mojo and The Numbers. However, because of Netflix model of subscription and tight wrap on streaming numbers, there are possibilities that some popular movies on the platform that could have grossed more.
