    Meet Sugentharan Perumal, Acting Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of MTN Group

    Current Acting Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of MTN South Africa, Sugentharan Perumal has been elevated to the position of Acting CFO of MTN Group.

    Sugentharan will take over from former CFO, Ralph Mupita, who was recently appointed as the new President and CEO of MTN Group. He will continue as acting CFO in the meantime, pending the conclusion of the MTN Group’s recruitment process for the position.

    “The company continues with its rigorous recruitment process for the GCFO position, and in the interim, the board has appointed Sugentharan Perumal as MTN Group’s acting GCFO.”

    With over 15 years’ experience as a chartered accountant and a former CFO at MTN Irancell, the MTN Board is confident Sugentharan is well suited to the role.

    “The board is confident in the wide-ranging experience and knowledge of MTN that Sugen brings to the role,” said Ralph Mupita.

    Who is Sugentharan Perumal?

    Prior to his latest appointment, Sugentharan had worked as CFO of MTN Irancell from 2014 till 2018. He oversaw the strategic and operational aspects of financial planning and management at the company.

    He is an Audit and Risk Committee Chairman and a board member within the MTN Group.

    Before joining MTN, Sugentharan had served as Audit Director in Assurance for two years ending 2014 at SizweNtsalubaGobodo, one of South Africa’s largest indigenous audit and advisory firms. As Audit Director, Sugentharan was in charge of the strategic planning and management of the company’s audit engagements.

    During his time at SizweNtsalubaGobodo, he also served as Assurance Manager for four years and later became the Senior Manager in Assurance from early 2010 till 2012.

    Education Background

    Sugentharan has a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Financial Accounting from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. He also obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Managerial Accounting from the same institution.

    He is a Chartered Accountant CA(SA) with more than 15 years experience and possesses professional qualifications in financial audits, cash flow, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), tax management, among others.

    As the acting CFO of MTN Group, Sugentharan will bring his wealth of financial expertise and experience in the telecommunications industry to help bolster the company’s growth, widen profit margins and raise revenue figures.

    Clubhouse, a new type of networking app has recrea Clubhouse, a new type of networking app has recreated the spontaneity of conversations online. The app uses an audio-based social network where people can spontaneously jump into voice chat rooms and talk about stuff together.

Clubhouse is “24/7 virtual panel” where you can jump in and even participate in the live audio rooms of friends, teammates, industry professionals and even celebrities like Kevin Hart, Oprah and Drake.

    Broadband penetration in Nigeria reached 45.07% in Broadband penetration in Nigeria reached 45.07% in November 2020, with 208 million active telephony subscriptions while active internet subscriptions hit 154.9 million. This is according to Prof Umar Danbatta, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

In the last five years, 3G and 4G base transceiver stations (BTS) in Nigeria have increased by 78% from 30,000 to 53,460 while 14,725km fibre optic transmission cables have been added to the pre-existing 47,000km, according to Danbatta.

    Beware, Askamaya thugs are on the loose again! In Beware, Askamaya thugs are on the loose again! In December, Funke Akindele returned back on the big screens with Omo Ghetto: The Saga, a comedy film featuring some of the biggest names in the industry like Chioma Akpotha, Eniola Badmus.

Set in a parallel Lagos, the film centres around Funke in a dual role as Ayomide and Lefty – twin sisters who grew up in separate areas of the state. While Ayomide was raised in affluence within an estate, Lefty was raised in Askamaya ghetto before she moved to join her mother in a high-class estate.

Currently, the movie is the highest grossing Nollywood movie ever at N453 million.
