Netflix Overtakes HBO

All thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, Netflix like other streaming platforms have received a major boost in users due to the lock-downs and stay at home initiatives.

Netflix especially won big, gaining more than 25 million users in the first half of 2020. The high amount of nominations received by the platform shows that the growth in its subscriber base was also significantly driven by the increase in quality movies and series on the platform.

In this years nominee list, Netflix series like “Unbelievable” and “Unorthodox” were nominated alongside HBO’s Watchmen for Best Limited Series

Similarly, Netflix’s “The Kominsky Method” and “Dead to Me” was also nominated for Best Comedy Series while popular series like “Ozark”, “The Crown” and “Stranger Things” got nominations for Best Drama Series.

In total Netflix overtook its biggest rival, HBO, which previously held the record for most nominations with 137 in 2019. This year, HBO snagged only 107 nominations.
