Here is why Bill Gates is no Longer Microsoft Board Member

Co-Founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates, has announced that he was going to cease being a member of the Microsoft Board. In the same vein, he will no longer be a member of the board of Berkshire Hathaway.

Berkshire Hathaway is an American Multinational holding company that wholly owns Duracell, Fruit of the Loom, and Dairy Queen, among others. Warren Buffet is the President and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, whose board Bill Gates is a member.

What is next for Bill Gates?

Gates at 65, will be focusing more on philanthropy and doing more with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as well as his other philanthropic ventures henceforth.

According to the second richest man in the world, he will direct more of his problem-solving skills and resources to battle challenges in education and global health, to mention a few.

“I have made the decision to step down from both of the public boards on which I serve – Microsoft and Berkshire Hathaway – to dedicate more time to philanthropic priorities including global health and development, education, and my increasing engagement in tackling climate change.”

Gates co-founded Microsoft in 1975 with his childhood friend, Paul Allen. His first major break came when he signed a contract with IBM to build MS-DOS. Since then, he has led Microsoft to become the World’s largest personal computer software company.

In 2000, he stepped down as the Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft to focus on the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He continued as Chairman until 2008 when he relinquished his full-time role in the company.

Since 2000, Bill Gates has been transferring more of his roles to others. However, this is the furthest he has done yet. In his statement, Gates shared that though he was stepping down from the Microsoft Board, he was still going to be involved with Microsoft’s journey to help shape its vision and achieve the company’s ambitious goals.
