Netflix has released a new feature that makes it easier for its users to see the top 10 most viewed programs on its platform in the country.
The streaming company revealed that the list will display the 10 most popular and trending programs from across all Netflix content, including, movies and TV shows.
In addition to the overall top 10 list, the streaming company also added most popular shows in various categories like top 10 most popular series and top 10 movies viewed in the country. This can be explored by clicking on the movies and TV shows tabs.
The list will be updated daily.
New Netflix feature thrilled UK audiences during demo
Netflix first rolled out a test phase of the most popular list in the UK and Mexico last year. The company revealed that the feature was generally accepted and found useful by its over 9 million users in the UK. The positive response it got from users in both countries prompted the company to roll out the list features globally.
You can now watch what others are watching
Netflix started streaming in Nigeria after it obtained rights to stream Kunle Afolayan’s ‘October 1‘ back in 2015. Since then, its subscribers have grown in the country albeit very slowly. As at December 2019, there are less than 60,000 users in Nigeria.
With thousands of content, searching for something to watch on Netflix can be stressful and time-consuming. But CEO Reed Hastings has said that the new features will make choosing titles easier.
“For those who want to watch what others are watching, this may make choosing titles even easier,”Reed Hastings, CEO of Netflix
However, the company said the ranks displayed will not be general but will vary depending on the user’s preference and the relevance of the programs to the user.
It also added that shows and films that make these list will have a special “Top 10” badge, wherever they appear on the platform.
While it faces growing competition from other strong streaming services like iROKO, Multichoice and Showmax in Nigeria, Netflix remains a powerhouse globally, with more than 167 million paid memberships globally.
The new top 10 ranking Netflix feature will make it easier and faster for subscribers to find what to watch. It will also help users keep up with what people around the country are watching.
