For its 4th cohort, edtech incubator, Injini has selected 6 African startups for its accelerator programme. Of the selected startups, Nigerian edtech startup, 1 Million Teachers, made the cut.

A 3 phased four-month programme, Injini Accelerator provides funding as well as incubation for early-stage edtech startups from Africa. This will include dedicated support from industry experts and skilled business mentors.

'1 Million Teachers' Could Get Up to $70k as Part of 4th Cohort of Injini Accelerator
Injini is the first African edtech incubator.

Since inception, Injini has always picked 8 startups for each cohort. But for this cohort, it decided to pick just 6 which included a Nigerian startup. The startups were selected from over 500 applications across Africa, with 25% of them female-led.

1 Million Teachers is an edtech startup that provides a learning solution for teachers in order to enhance students’ learning outcomes. Founded in March 2017 by Hakeem Subair, the startups development program is reward-based for teachers to keep them engaged and motivated.

For the past years, Nigerian startups have consecutively been a part of the cohort. Last year saw 2 Nigerian startups selected among the total of 8 startups.

For this 4th cohort, the other 5 startups were selected from 4 African countries – Kenya, Ghana, Sierra Leone, and South Africa. They include Ambani Africa and Roundafire from South Africa, Lumen Labs from Kenya, Mosabi from Sierra Leone and Smartix Education from Ghana.

For being selected, these startups will be provided with access to support services during the incubation as well as N2.5 million ($7,000) in grants.

Also, the selected startups, should they impress Injini with their performance and trajectory, stand a chance of being offered an equity investment of up to N25 million ($70,000).

The first phase of the accelerator will begin in Mid-March as the incubation will run through to July.
