NCC Appoints New Commissioner, Adeleke Adewolu, on President Buhari’s Recommendation

NCC Appoints New Commissioner, Adeleke Adewolu, on President Buhari’s Recommendation

The Nigerian Senate has appointed a new Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) commissioner on Wednesday in the person of Mr Adeleke Adewolu.

Adewolu was nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari in a letter addressed to the Senate in September.

    See an excerpt below:

“In accordance with section 8(1) of the Nigerian Communications Commission’s Act, 2003, I hereby present Adeleke Moronfolu Adewolu for confirmation as Executive Commissioner of the Nigerian Communications Commission by the distinguished Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

While hoping that this request will receive the usual expeditious consideration of the distinguished Senate, please accept, Mr. Senate President, the assurances of my highest consideration.”

    President Muhammadu Buhari

Prior to his appointment, Adeleke had served as Special Assistant to the then Senate President, Ken Nnamani, from 2005 to 2007. He was called to the bar in 1986 and began his legal practice with Bola Ajibola & Co. Legal Practitioners.

Parts of the experiences that he brings to the NCC are from his political appointments, most of which have been in his state of origin, Ogun state.

Most notably, he served as the Special Adviser, Research & Documentation to the then Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, from 2011 to 2015.

Adeleke is expected to, along with the other members of the NCC board, start off by addressing the many slacks present in the NCC.

According to the president of the Senate, Mr Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan, the new NCC boss’ key job will include addressing the deplorable condition of the country’s communications sector, right away.

He said, “Nigerians don’t get the right services from these operators as their services are not reliable.”

Further lamenting the sad state of the communications services, he said, “We expect that by the time they have the full complement, they must ensure that Nigerians get the best of services and NCC should live up to its billings and mandate.”

Adeleke’s appointment comes at a time when the NCC is being asked to step up its game. He’ll have to hit the ground running.
