Almost two years since its launch, Nigerian edTech platform, Simbibot has become an academic friend of Nigerian students. It recently announced a student userbase of 1000 since it was launched.
Simbi is a bot which has been designed to simulate the language and manner of a regular user on Facebook messenger.
The bot was created in response to the challenges encountered by Nigerian students when they write the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Post-UTME examinations respectively.
To learn with Simbi, the user needs a Facebook messenger account. This is the only registration process that is required to begin.
On starting, the user is asked to select a subject or track to learn from. The track opens up a list of subjects that the student can practice from.
Simbi has been developed to assist students from Senior Secondary Class 1 to 3, students preparing for the West African Examination Council (WAEC) exams, alongside the UTME and post-UTME.
Simbi allows the user to take tests or receive tips about any selected track. Based on this metric, the student is evaluated.
Simbi also allows users to take quizzes with other users in the form of brain combats. The student will have access to a number of questions and the other student (opponent) will also have the same access.
The questions are timed and the person with the highest score is the winner of the combat. The results of the combat are stored for the student in the leaderboard.
This is part of the offering of the Edtech platform; a community of other learners. Students have the opportunity of joining the learning community on WhatsApp or following Simbi on other social media platforms.
Clicking on the “my progress” option on the menubar allows students to keep track of their progress, as well as monitor how well or how badly they are performing in the tests and evaluations they take part in.
The Edtech platform has since been getting more students and helping them understand core school subjects since its launch, this has been its goal.
Across its social platforms, Simbi has also taken it on itself to improve the quality of education teachers have to give to their students. Teaching tips are frequently offered with the belief that building one teacher is a way to build a hundred students in the classroom.
