Ecobank Group has appointed Aissatou Djiba Diallo, former Microsoft head of innovation in Africa, as its new Senior Fintech Advisor to strategically raise its fintech sector.

Ecobank was to play a major role in helping Africa’s fintech sector achieve significant global market share

As the new advisor, Diallo will lead Ecobank’s fintech initiatives and advise senior management on the banking group’s fintech strategy.

With Diallo’s help, Ecobank plans to continue the ongoing implementation of its broader digital strategy. This is in tandem with increasing its commitment to playing a major role in helping Africa’s innovative fintech sector achieve a significant share of the global market.

Diallo joins Ecobank with over 11 years of experience working for Microsoft. She is credited with building a strategy to identify, support and attract key African fintech startups, partners to the Microsoft Cloud platform while overseeing 50 countries.

Diallo has a Master’s Degree in Computer Science from Université Pierre et Marie Curie, France. She is also an aeronautics enthusiast who is passionate about science, technology and innovation.

Before her appointment, Diallo also served as OEM Partner Account Managers, Partner and Strategy Program Lead, Developer and Platform Evangelist.

Eddy Ogbogu, Ecobank’s Group Executive, Operations and Technology, described Diallo’s appointment as an important step in Ecobank Group’s fintech and digital plans.

Ecobank Supporting development of African fintechs

Diallo who has served as a Judge on previous editions of the Ecobank Fintech Challenge expressed great delight at becoming part of Ecobank Group’s vision to support the development of African fintechs.

“I am delighted to become a part of the vision of the Ecobank Group in supporting the development of African fintechs and further drive the continent’s economic development. Fintech is an important part of the Bank’s goal to vastly increase its customer numbers across its pan-African footprint of 33 countries and open up market access and integration for Africa’s fintech ecosystem.”

She also lauded the Group CEO and senior management for the new waves of initiatives, adding that the progress the group has registered in the past 3 years has strengthened partnerships with startups.

“In the past three years, the bank has significantly strengthened its partnerships with startups and I am excited that our Group CEO and senior management have prioritised new waves of initiatives to expand our work with fintechs and deliver a whole new level of win-win collaborations that will positively impact African lives and grow African fintech businesses.”

Nigerian FinTech startup, Wallet.ng, has emerged second runner-up in the Ecobank Fintech Challenge 2018

A large part of Diallo’s new role will focus on growing the bank’s flagship annual fintech initiative – the Ecobank Fintech Challenge and Ecobank Fintech Fellowship.

The Group’s initiative program has become one of Africa’s most promising fintech startup programmes providing selected fintechs with the opportunity to fast-track their growth.

Having served as Judge in the 2017 and 2018 edition of the Challenge and Fellowship, Diallo has ample experience and the resources to enhance the next edition.
