Meet Thato Motlanthe, MTN’s Newly Appointed Executive for Investor Relations

Telecom giant, MTN Group has appointed Thato Motlanthe as its new executive for investor relations. Motlanthe’s appointment was announced by the MTN Group on Monday, July 22, 2019. This makes him the newest member of the MTN executive committee.

Motlanthe is scheduled to begin his new role as an executive for investor relations on September 1, 2019, replacing Nik Kershaw who left MTN in May 2019.

As a lead executive for investor relations, Motlanthe is responsible for managing communications between MTN corporate management and its investors. He will also focus on the building of a profitable financial community for the telecom giants.

Motlanthe graduated from the University of Cape Town with dual honours in Commerce and Business Science. He began his career at UBS Investment Bank as an assistant director. He also held positions at STANLIB Asset Management and Citigroup Global Markets. He currently ranks 71 out of the 128 registered fund managers in South African equity according to Citywire.

With more than 15 years’ experience as an investment professional, Motlanthe is a seasoned professional in both the sell-side and buy-side of equity capital markets.

He joins MTN Group bringing along with him an extensive experience of South African and global capital markets. Motlanthe served as the Portfolio Manager for Absa Asset Management, co-managing the flagship funds before his appointment.

Motlanthe will join his colleague, Ms Yolanda Cuba in the ranks of newly appointed executives who will report directly to the MTN Group CEO Ralph Mupita. Commenting on the appointment of Motlanthe, Ralph Mupita expressed pleasure in having such skilled personnel join their team.
