Today must be social media down day as global users of Facebook family apps – WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram, are all experiencing technical glitches.
The issues which began earlier today were signaled by several users facing problems accessing the apps in general. Facebook users said they were unable to post or view the media posts of others, while for WhatsApp and Instagram sharing any form of media, including audio, images, stickers, appeared to be unavailable.
At the time this report was released however, users were still able to chat on WhatsApp as well as view Instagram posts and stories.
The glitch is said to be a result of an issue triggered during maintenance operations. And the platform has made known its efforts to get it rectified.
During one of our routine maintenance operations, we triggered an issue that is making it difficult for some people to upload or send photos and videos. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and we apologize for any inconvenience.
A Facebook spokesperson said to CNN
But it was not just the Facebook family apps that were experiencing issues, Twitter also did. The social media platform is said to have experienced glitches with its direct messages, with the app showing notifications for unread DMs that were not there.
Although no reason was given for the glitch, it doesn’t look as disturbing as that of the Facebook crew as users have turned to Twitter to voice their complaints and of course make jokes about the social media disruption. Infact, the #instagramdown, #facebookdown and #whatsappdown hashstags are all trending on Twitter.
This is not the first major outage experienced by Facebook this year. In March, the platform was hit with its most severe outage ever which also affected its other platforms – WhatsApp, Instagram.
For now, we can only hope the social media giant gets this issue resolved as soon as possible.
