South African based edtech incubator, Injini, has named 2 Nigerian edtech startups into its 3rd cohort. The startups, Otrac and Traindemy, were selected together with 6 other African startups to take part in the accelerator program.

A four-month programme, Injini provides funding for participating startups as well as dedicated support from industry experts and skilled business mentors. And since its inception in 2017, Injini has always picked 8 startups every 6 months to provide them with these privileges.

This year is no different and 2 Nigerian startups have deservedly made the list.

Otrac is an e-learning software on web and mobile application that provides a learning platform for healthcare professionals. Healthcare personnels can easily choose the courses they want to study and learn at their own pace remotely.

On the other hand, Traindemy is an online learning platform where people can acquire vocational skills and talent coaching to become more resourceful either as entrepreneurs or as staff members in their workplaces.

Interestingly, Nigerian startups were a part of last year’s cohort. Infact, three of the eight startups in Injini’s second cohort were from Nigeria

The other 6 startups were selected from 4 African countries. They include textbooks marketplace Quillo and developer training service Zaio (South Africa), agricultural education platform Agricomm Media and computer-based adaptive learning programme Smartzed (Zambia), student engagement platform Swaiba (Kenya) and Tanzanian student training service MyJobPass.

The Injini accelerator programme would provide each of these startups access to various support services and N2.5 million ($7,000) in grants.

Furthermore, the selected startups stand a chance of securing an equity investment of up to N25 million ($70,000), which will be invested in only the most promising startups.

The first phase of the accelerator has already begun in Cape Town and will run till July. It features workshops on topics including strategy, pitching and branding. Startups will then return to their home countries, where they will receive continuing support. The final phase of the accelerator program will begin in September and startups will be required to return to Cape Town.

Congratulations to Otrac and Traindemy, we wish them the best.
