Meet SchoolsCompass, an Edtech Startup Helping Parents Find the Best Schools for Their Children

Choosing the right schools for their children can be very difficult for parents. There are just so many schools around and choosing one with the right teaching style, affordable fee and quality environment can be overwhelming.

But SchoolsCompass, an edtech platform is out to change all that.

SchoolsCompass is an online solution that helps parents choose the best schools for their children and wards. It serves as a guide, allowing parents compare different schools to make informed decisions and determine the best fit for their children.

Founded in August 2016 by Oluwayomi Ojo, a Mathematician/Software Developer, the startup was borne after he experienced frustration while looking for a school for his children in Nigeria. The online platform allows for Nigerian schools to profile their institutions and tell parents what they offer in their respective institutions.

These schools – classified under primary and secondary schools, are profiled on the platform by the school administrator, displaying details that genuinely portray the school’s story. These includes academic records, the school’s educational scope as well as facilities in the school.

In turn, parents are allowed to select up to 4 schools (on PC and 2 on mobile devices) and click on ‘compare’ button next to any of the selected schools to see more details about the school. The search can be done based on various options, including; School fees rates, Location (State) and School type (Day or Boarding).

After comparison, should parents be satisfied with any of the schools, they can contact the school directly with the information supplied on the school’s page or decide to visit the school.

In addition to helping parents find suitable schools, the platform also allows applicants interested in working in a particular school to upload their resumes directly to the schools.

Although SchoolsCompass may not be the only startup offering such services, it does seem to be doing very well. The startup currently has 1554 primary schools and 754 secondary schools profiled on its platform. As at 2017, it had over 20,000 parents visiting its site for details of schools for their kids.
