Instagram Introduces Walkie Talkie Style Voice Messaging for Users

Instagram has introduced walkie-talkie style voice messaging feature into its platform. The Facebook-owned company announced via Twitter the global roll-out of the feature yesterday. The new feature brings voice messaging to Instagram for the first time.

How It Works

To use the new feature, you have to update your app to the latest version of Instagram. And the new feature works quite similarly to those on many other platforms, especially WhatsApp.

To send a voice message, tap the Instagram Direct icon. Open a chat you’ll like to send a message to. Then press and hold the microphone button located at the bottom of the screen to record your voice message.

When you are done recording, release the button and your voice message will be sent immediately.

But take care though, because when you release your hand from the button, there’s no way to stop a message from sending. And once a voice message is sent, it can’t be recalled.

Another way to send voice messages is by tapping the app’s messaging icon and holding the phone close to your ear. It should make a beep and you can start recording your message. When you’re ready, you can tap the send icon to have the message delivered.

Voice recordings last up to one minute and they stay permanently on the chat.

Instagram is the latest company to introduce voice messaging on its platform. Several other platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp and Telegram already have this feature.
