Organised by the Global Finance Magazine, the World Best Bank Awards celebrates banking innovations across several tiers and categories. Winners are carefully selected using various criteria which demonstrates how they’ve outperformed their competition and adapted to rapidly changing conditions in the industry.
For First Bank, the award was a huge recognition of its own strides over the last few months. And, even if it is for bragging rights, the win re-emphasizes why it is the biggest bank in the country. Yet, it is not the only institution to have nudged an international recognition this year. Here are other Nigerian banks that have scooped international awards so far in 2018.
Access Bank
Not only has Access Bank been carting home a number of interesting international awards since the start of the year, the laurels have also extended to top members of its staff. In July, the Bank’s CEO, Dr Herbert Wigwe, was awarded the “Sustainable Leader of the Year for Africa” at the 8th Global Sustainable Finance Conference (GSFC), held in Germany.
Access Bank's W initiative won an award for Female Friendly bank of the year, at the Women in Marketing and communications Conference/Awards (WIMCA 2018). It is such a privilege to win this award! Thank you @wimcang#wimca #award @myaccessbank#Winitiative #womenfriendly pic.twitter.com/Z2Dyqk8aWG

Also in July, the bank itself won the “Outstanding Business Sustainability Achievement Award” at the Karlsruhe Sustainable Finance Awards 2018. Held in Germany, the award recognises financial institutions and organisations that have recorded outstanding success in incorporating socio-economic and environmental aspects in their corporate strategy and business processes. This is the third consecutive year Access Bank has claimed this prize.
In July, the bank also won “Africa’s Best Bank for Corporate Social Responsibility” award at the Euromoney Award for Excellence 2018. Held in London, this award also recognises Access Bank’s CSR commitments.
Keystone Bank
Keystone Bank may not be a very popular bank in Nigeria but that hasn’t stopped it from gaining international repute. In fact, the bank was awarded “Best Bank In Women Entrepreneurs Empowerment Category” at the 2018 Global Impact Leadership Award held in New York.
