Merck Accelerator has announced the 10 startups taking part in its Satellite Program holding in Lagos. Out of the ten participants in the contest, eight are Nigerian with the other two from Ghana and Cameroon.

The Merck Lagos Satellite Program is open to startups developing solutions for healthcare, life sciences, and performance materials.
The program is not unique to Nigeria as it is held in two other locations in Africa, which are Cape Town and Nairobi. The Lagos leg of the program is organized in partnership with the Seedspace incubator.

The selected startups for the program include Vinsighte a startup developing visual aid technology for blind and visually impaired people; FarmPadi, which develops a platform that helps farmer improve productivity while addressing food security issues; and FrontierSS, which has developed a micronutrient loaded, chitosan and soy protein blend.
Others include WellMeNow, a data-driven health startup that helps people minimize health issues; PreDiagn, provides on-demand diagnostic health services; BrillHealth, a simple eHealth platform that advises and verifies symptoms; SYNC CITY, a platform that manages data for small and medium healthcentres; and Opacus Tech.
Cameroon’s GIC Space and Ghana’s Chekkit medical startups also made the list.

The selected startups will take part in the Lagos program which holds on September 21, 2018. The overall winning startup will receive a $3,000 cash prize and a fully-paid trip to Merck headquarters in Germany to pitch for partnership and collaboration on Merck’s projects.
Other benefits include access to Merck training materials and networks, including its innovator academy TrainToInnovate (an interactive innovation platform to develop innovator skills and share experiences) and 12 months free office space at Seedspace Lagos.
