It was another milestone in the African tech space yesterday as Andela announced the appointment of Omowale David-Ashiru as Andela Nigeria’s new Country Director, the first female to occupy the position so far.
Omowale will lead Andela Nigeria‘s team of 500+ people, ensuring that the organisation continues to advance its objectives of developing Africa’s future technology leaders.

Omowale’s appointment follows the appoint of her predecessor, Seni Sulyman, as the company’s Vice President, Global Operations. As it stands, he is the second female country manager of three:

Omowale obtained a First Class B.Sc. in Economics from the University of Ibadan, where she was the Treasurer of the Nigeria Economic Students Association and a University Representative for the Initiative for Social Advancement. She has a deep passion for people, an avid reader and adventure lover.
Prior to her appointment, Omowale managed her own fashion retail venture, Lagos and Abuja-based Strictly Babes Limited, for eight years and five months. The store is a one-stop shop for corporate wear, special occasion wear, bump concealers, trendy clothes, accessories.
Before this time, she had spent almost two decades in management consulting and management. Omowale spent 10 years and 10 months at Accenture, where she rose from the role of an analyst to becoming a seasoned management consultant, certified project manager and a senior manager.
Following her appointment, the profile page of the company’s website has been updated to reflect the change as Seni Sulyman is now being designated as the VP, Global Operations. In this new role, he will oversee Andela’s talent recruitment and development, service delivery and African operations across Lagos, Nairobi and Kampala, driving key decisions and initiatives that affect Andela’s 900+ employees
