Two Nigerian Companies Shortlisted for Finals of Shell LiveWIRE Top ten Innovations Award

Following the success that Nigerian startups recorded at the awards last year, two Nigerian businesses have been shortlisted for the 2018 Shell LiveWIRE Top Ten Innovations Awards holding in Malaysia this year.

This year, Alternate Energy Ltd was shortlisted for the Energy Solutions award. The company provides solar and wind-powered community solutions, including water treatment and off-grid solar farms.

However, the Bayelsa-based De-RabaCon Plastics was named the automatic winner for the first-ever Shell Outstanding Achievement award. De-RabaCon Plastics is being recognized for its eco-friendly solution to plastics recycling.

About the Shell LiveWIRE Top Ten Innovations Awards

The Shell LiveWIRE Top Ten Innovations Awards is a part of the Shell LiveWIRE social investment programme. Shell’s LiveWIRE initiative helps young Nigerians explore the option of starting their own business as a real and viable career option.

The programme is typically targeted at young people between the age of 18 and 35. And it aids them with training, mentorship, and business support necessary to grow their enterprises.

Although the programme is global, in Nigeria, it targets the youths in the Niger Delta Geopolitical region. Over the last two decades, the initiative has trained over 6,000 Niger Delta youths and provided grants to over 3,000 of them.

The Top Ten Innovations Awards is an initiative of the Shell LiveWIRE initiative and the Top Ten Awards builds on the gains recorded by the alumnus of the Shell Initiative.

As a global competition, the awards recognize and reward businesses that demonstrate excellence in innovation. Businesses are recognised for their work in several categories such as energy solutions, retail supply chain, and social enterprises. However, only businesses developed by Shell LiveWIRE alumni can apply for the awards.

Importantly too, winners of each category receive $20,000 in cash prizes while the runner-ups in each category receive $10,000 each. Aside from this, the top ten companies get support and mentoring from Shell itself. They also get access to Shell’s support network to grow their businesses.
