Meet Gabriel Okeowo, the New CEO of BudgIT

Just 8 months after taking up his first position in the company, Mr Gabriel Okeowo has just been appointed the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nigerian CivicTech Startup, BudgIT, in place of Founder, Oluseun Onigbinde.

This replacement is coming about 2 months after CEO and Founder, Seun Onigbinde announced his “few months-break off BudgIT” which was later found out to be a 10-months break from his company to further his education/long-term goals at the Obama Foundation Scholars Programme at Columbia University, New York City.

The Scholars Programme empowers individuals with a proven commitment to service with the tools they need to make their efforts more effective. It also identifies innovative solutions to complex global problems as well as promote change through values-based leadership.

In order to keep things going smoothly during his period of absence, BudgIT General Manager Operations, Gabriel Okeowo has been appointed as new CEO. Gabriel, a graduate of the University of Ilorin with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology, was appointed to his former post as GM Operations at BudgIT in January 2018. He also holds a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from the National Open University (NOUN) as well as a Master’s degree in Project Development and Implementation from the University of Ibadan.

With over 11 years of experience working in the NGO sector, Gabriel has worked with several international organizations across West African countries including International Centre for Gender and Social Research, Family Strengthening Programme (a Dutch-funded programme), and others.

His duties as CEO BudgIT would include overseeing all operational management and stakeholder communications within the company while Founder, Seun Onigbinde will continue to support fundraising efforts.
