Weekly Roundup: Nigerians React as MultiChoice Increases DSTV Subscription Rates

How do you feel about MultiChoice’s recent tariff increase? Well, we’ve compiled bits about this and other tech news so you don’t have to.

So, in case you missed all that happened during the week, let’s take you down memory lane.

Nigerians React as MultiChoice Increases DSTV Subscription Rates

MultiChoice has increased the subscription rates for DStv while reducing the prices for GOTV. This got many Nigerians lamenting on the popular social media platform, Twitter after the company sent out messages to subscribers.

@DStvNg @DStv is this for real, so you guys are out to reap Nigerian off. This is wicked. I blame our government for allowing this. pic.twitter.com/l4r212HVXH

    — Mazi Ubadire (@maziubadire) July 9, 2018

Nigerians are not happy with the development and have refused to be quiet about it.

From #BankWars to #PayTVWars,#Nigerians are always at the receiving end.
Is @StarTimes_Ng really a good match to @DStvNg (Content Production Quality), where does @kwese_NG stands in these?

    — Gbemi Dennis (@GbemiDennis) August 6, 2018

Dstv is on the verge of losing many of its 4 million Nigerian subscribers, having lost several thousand last year after its increase in subscribers.

Introducing Concatenate.io, a Global Conference for Software Developers

A few months ago, popular Nigerian developer and tech evangelist, Christian Nwamba, took to Twitter to vent about a very familiar issue: visa. As a superstar developer, he gets a lot of requests to participate at various conferences across the world, but each time these events hold, he never gets to attend because his visa application is usually rejected.

Africa con for developers #Alert….#concatenate.io good stuff https://t.co/meERFnvCkA

    — Jer 31:15 (@rainmekka) July 17, 2018

Working together, these developers have come up with a fix for this problem: Concatenate.io. Basically, Concatenate.io is a free conference for Nigerian developers. and its happening today in Lagos Nigeria.
