Currently one of the five largest banks in Nigeria in terms of assets, loans, deposits and branch network, the bank would be utilizing the Whatsapp business platform to bring its Banking Relationship Managers closer to its customers through its mobile app, Access Mobile, available on IOS and Android platforms.

This is in a bid to provide its customers with customized and responsive banking services.

Before Access bank, other banks like with GTBank, UBA Bank, and First Bank already announced this new feature for their customers.

According to the Group Managing Director/ CEO, Herbert Wigwe, this initiative was developed in line with the bank’s commitment to changing the face of banking on the continent by leveraging innovation and technology to provide customers with ease in carrying out their transactions and maximizing their financial opportunities.

Driving customer intimacy and providing engaging and convenient access to financial services across all channels remain a key focus area for us and we will continue to drive and implement solutions to provide a best in class service for our customers.–Mr. Wigwe said.

How Would it Work?

The recent interest in the Whatsapp Business platform by Nigerian banks may not be unconnected with the platform’s recent update, Whatsapp Business API.

The API provides a new way for people to quickly start a WhatsApp conversation from an ad on Facebook. Although in this case, Access bank would be making use of its mobile app platform to connect users.

GT Bank and UBA Set to Launch Banking Services on Whatsapp Business
Whatsapp Business is a whole new way for businesses to interact with customers.

It’s the sort of direct customer engagement most businesses aim for. Businesses can now give more personalized services, intimate their customers on new services, and use it to draw in new customers.

It’s not surprising that Access bank is the latest to join the train as the bank has always had an enthusiastic presence on social media (with over 310k followers on Twitter).

And now, with WhatsApp Business, it has an additional channel to provide its over 5.7 million customers with ease of access and engagement in their banking transactions as well as maximize their financial opportunities.
