The Nigerian tech ecosystem is growing rapidly, giving birth to more startups and entrepreneurs. And although the scene is perceived to be dominated by the male set, we have a good number of females with exciting ideas turned into successful startups.
From HealthTech to FinTech to EnviroTech as well as all other areas of tech, we have vibrant women putting in a lot of work and making us proud.
In this post, we would be taking a look at 5 of those women whose innovations are shaking up the tech ecosystem in Nigeria.
Odunayo Eweniyi of PiggyBank
Odunayo Eweniyi, is one of the brains behind the famous online savings platform Piggybank. Serving as its Chief Operations Officer, Odunayo is a first-class Computer Engineer from Covenant University. She is also the Co-founder/Chief Operations Officer at Sharphire Global Limited, the company behind Piggybank and PushCV, an online recruitment platform.

Bilikiss Adebiyi-Adebayo of Wecyclers
Bilikiss Adebiyi is a Nigerian female innovator and founder of the EnviroTech startup, WeCyclers. Her startup is focused on helping low-income communities in developing countries get a chance to alleviate their waste problem and also make money from it through a rewarding recycle program.
Bilikiss is an MBA holder from MIT and a Masters degree holder from Vanderbilt University. She was recently appointed as the General Manager, Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) to help Lagos ‘Go Green’.
Temie Giwa-Tubosun of LifeBank
Temie Giwa-Tubosun is a Nigerian health entrepreneur who is passionate about saving lives and solving healthcare problems. One way she is doing this is through her HealthTech startup, Lifebank. Lifebank collaborates with blood banks, hospitals, and volunteer donors across Nigeria to make sure blood transfusion is available for everyone when needed and no one has to die because of that.
Her startup started out as One Percent Project in 2012, an NGO that enlightens people on the need for donating blood before it was transformed into to a more efficient product with a business model, which is Lifebank in 2016. Temie is a graduate of the Minnesota State University, Moorhead.

Dr. Ola Orekunrin of Flying Doctors
Dr. Ola Orekunrin is a medical doctor and founder of HealthTech startup, Flying Doctors Nigeria (West Africa’s first Air Ambulance Service). Her startup is poised to bringing emergency care to the most unmotorable parts of Nigeria through her air ambulance company which is based in Lagos.
She was motivated to start this after her younger sister died of sickle-cell anemia crisis whilst traveling in Nigeria as a consequence of no available medical air service to transport her to a hospital. The local clinic where they went could not cater for her needs. Ola is a graduate of medicine from the University Of York, UK.
Anike Lawal of Mamalette
Anike Lawal is a Nigerian entrepreneur and founder of social enterprise, Mamalette. Mamalette helps to provide the tools and resources needed to help Nigerian mothers and expectant mothers, connect with others going through similar experiences.
I want every single woman, once she becomes a mother and is pregnant or is even thinking of getting pregnant, the first thing she thinks about is Mamalette and Mamalette for information. –Anike Lawal
She started Mamalette in 2013 and has since then provided mother and mothers-to-be with information that can help shape and improve their lives. She is a graduate of Business Studies and French from Trinity College, Dublin Ireland. She also holds an M.Sc. from London School of Economics.
