    Data Science Nigeria Presents Inter-Campus Machine Learning Competition for Students in Nigerian Schools

    Data Science Nigeria, Nigeria’s leading data science group, has kicked off its first-ever Inter-Campus Machine Learning Competition which is designed to raise a generation of data scientists and Artificial Intelligence experts from all Nigerian schools.

    The Inter-Campus Machine Learning Competition is aimed at encouraging and equipping the Nigerian students with the most up-to-date and high-quality learning opportunities to prepare them for the well-paying earning opportunities of the future that would be revolutionized by artificial intelligence and machine learning.

    The participants have 2 options – R or Python route as clearly explained in the hyperlink provided in the original post.
    Please note that the course is Introduction to Python or R for data science and this is a good foundation for building world-class machine learning experts.

    Students participating in the competition must be a part of 2 free Microsoft Data Science preparatory courses in either Python or R for data science between July 2nd and September 9th online or attend the special classes at Data Science Nigeria’s new AI Hub in Unilag, Lagos. After the study (online or in person), students must submit their certificates/result online on or before 9th September 2018 to qualify for the Regression Kaggle competition which will hold between September 10-24 2018.

    Note that students can take the studies in groups or individually as the case may be, but the submission for competition must be done individually.

    Submissions for the Regression Kaggle Competition would be authenticated with a telephone validation quiz for every participant. The top 75 participants (with special consideration female competitors) shall be invited to the Bootcamp held from 10-15 October 2018 at its AI Hub in Lagos, Nigeria.

    The competition which will precede Data Science Nigeria’s highly successful learning bootcamp/hackathon, themed, Deep Learning Nigeria, is an all-expense-paid learning camp focused on deepening financial inclusion through the use of machine learning across all sectors.

    The Bootcamp would feature more activities and a hackathon to determine the overall best machine learning students. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finalists will earn prizes with a total value of 1 million naira from the Bootcamp organizers.

    In Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), Nigeria’s monthly d In Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), Nigeria’s monthly data consumption of 80,000 TB(80 million GB) is only topped by South Africa, which expends up to 269,000 TB every month. Kenya and Ghana complete the four largest consumers, using 22,400 TB and 8,100 TB of monthly internet data respectively.

But, Ghana and Kenya switch places when monthly data usage is measured relative to the number of internet users. With 36.54 million internet users, South Africa still leads with 7.4gb per user. Nigeria’s 108.27 million internet subscribers see data spent per user at 0.73gb, followed by Ghana’s 0.55gb and Kenya’s 0.47gb.
